In trading there are 2 types of people that get zero results:
Those that have unrealistic expectations.
And…those that try to create a perfect trading strategy.
Today I'd like to talk about the 2nd one.
As you know I talked a lot in the past about backtesting and that can get quite a few traders stuck.
They soon realize:
“shit, this strategy only made 12.6% in 3 years…”
So they scrap it and start looking for the next “shiny method”.
Here are two things I want you to get crystal clear on:
- There are no perfect trading strategies
- You can always make things better
Sure it may sound like I'm saying the exact opposite.
But that's NOT it at all.
1. There are no perfect trading strategies
Whenever you see a “foolproof trading strategy” online, I can guarantee you it's not.
Its results will about the same as an average strategy.
Some people have accused me of promoting that kind of perfect strategy performance with my recently launched Algo Nation project.
But honestly, I've been really upfront with you… outside of a prop firm challenge, I'd aim for 2-4% a month maximum.
“But it has an amazing win rate?”
No, only around 48%.
Pretty much any good strategy (which takes at least 5 years to put together) will act like that.
This brings me to my 2nd important point…
2. You can always make things better
Let's take back the “shit, this strategy only made 12.6% in 3 years…”, shall we?
If you trade this on 1 pair, sure it isn't surprising.
But what if you build a portfolio trading 10 Forex pairs or other assets over time?
That 12.6% could end up being 120% or more, which is pretty impressive if you ask me.
So there's always room for improvement.
That's why I absolutely don't want you wasting time on creating a strategy.
Put something together that's “decent”, start trading it on small accounts, and then improve it over time.
It's gonna sound “ooohhh oohh” saying this but…
The market will teach you how to make your strategy better.
It's 100% true from my experience.
